Formation of Sedimentary Rocks

Although earth's crust consists primarily of igneous rock, most of the surface is covered by sedimentary rock.

In simple terms, sedimentary rocks form through the compacting and cementing of fragments of sediments that build up and form layers of rocks. In the next few days, we will examine and distinguish among the three types of sedimentary rocks and how they form.

Homework: Due Friday, 19 December 2008

Textbook: read chapter 6.3, pages 127-131. Do questions 1-4 in Section Review, page 131.
